Can anyone tell me if this is what I need or how to determine if it is what I need?

https://www.amazon.com/Wheel-Master-Alloy-Mountain-Double/dp/B0186P0WBC/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1529359361&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=29+inch+mountain+bike+wheel&dpPl=1&dpID=51KPGpBhOvL&ref=plSrch

I know it’s a mountain bike. I know it’s a 29er with a 6bolt disc and a quick release bit that is about it

Kinja'd!!!

For ir help maybe I’ll Photoshop a weird cabover or some other vehicle type that needs to be made but noone will

Front wheels are pretty easy for compatibility. You just need the diameter and and the right pattern for the disc (6-bolt vs. Shimano center lock) so it will fit fine. I have no experience with or opinion on that particular wheel though.

eh.... its a front wheel... long as you got the right amount of inches and the correct amount of bolts for the disc you should be fine

quick release should be a standard size

One more thing I should add - it looks like the wheels in the link use Schrader valve tubes, so if you were running Presta you’ll need new tubes. I can’t see the valve in your photo to tell.

Little concerned about the quality. I spent that much on a single discounted rim only, no hub or spokes. Also regular small qr skewer it fat hollow one?

I love tacos.

You got a bike shop nearby? That can probably be saved..

I don’t have new information beyond what’s been said, but ... how did you do that? Are you OK?

I was thinking the same. The hub seems very basic, although it is rebuildable at least. I can’t tell from the picture what hub he has now, but if it were me I would probably buy a new rim and have my bike shop lace it up to my existing hub. It’s been years since I did that but I think they charged me around $40 plus the cost of the rim and spokes.

Honestly don’t know how it happened. I just saw the ground coming at me at an unusually high rate of speed. Wasn’t even a fast/tough location. I was a bit sore the next morning but only have a bruise on my knee

What quality level of bike is it? Are we talking Walmart grade, REI grade, or higher?

Is there any writing on the inside of the hub? Like between the two sides where the spokes attach? A lot of hubs will have a brand and model like “Shimano Deore” or something. If it is blank, then you probably have something similar to the wheel on Amazon and I’d just get the whole wheel. If it is a mid-level Shimano or SRAM hub or some specialty brand though it might be better to keep the hub and build around it.

Opposaurus road trip to Utah so HHFP can build him wheels. Seems like a good use of time and money and would make many Oppo posts.

its a Specialized Rockhopper Comp. 3 or 4 yrs old. Paid either $1000 for it when it was new. definately not Walmart material. I’d say upper REI or a dedicated bike shop

it just says ‘Specialized’ so i’m guessing its a pretty generic hub

this is the rim

Worth putting a few bucks into then if it’s just the wheel that’s bent.

Check with a local shop on fixing your current wheel. It will prob cost more than $55, but the level of hub and other parts on your current one will prob also be higher.

Otherwise, if you’re set on getting a new complete wheel, just make sure that the size matches (diameter & width), and that the axle spacing and brake patterns are correct.

Ok yeah it’s probably base level stuff. Still better than a Walmart bike but probably not worth rescuing out of there.

You can visit me here in NM too whenever. My bikes are still back in TX I can’t wait til it gets here so I don’t have to borrow others. Probably for the best though - I’m still getting used to living at 7,250 ft. I just went for a run that would’ve been no problem before and I’m sucking wind big time. I do not have a Land Cruiser tho.

This is one area where I wouldn’t get an amazon wheel.

https://www.performancebike.com/shop/tires-tubes-wheels/bike-wheels-wheel-accessories/mtn-wheels/performance-wheelhouse-deore-29-quot%3B-m525-disc-rhyno-lite-mountain-wheel-front-50-3809

This is a good quality and equivlant to what you have. You could also pay the local bike shop to do a rim replacement, probably run you about $75-$100.

Ha, oh boy. I’m glad you’re OK! I rode for about 45 minutes on Sunday and in the last 100 yards I went to make a little right-turn adjustment on a near-straight (a trail I’d never ridden) and my left hand slipped almost all the way off the handlebars due to sweat. Had that happened, I was going straight into one of a series of trees at about 15mph. I just held on with my fingertips and squeaked by.

However, on the same trip I bent my derailleur (for the third time) and the bike wouldn’t shift right for the rest of the trip. At least I had a couple gears I could use, although they were a bit high for climbing. I got a workout! And my bike is at the shop now.

i actually just got off the phone with a shop. I had the guy order me a wheel. I asked if he could just do a new rim & spokes and he said the labor involved would make it not worth saving the hub and that the new wheel/hub is pretty much equal to what I have. $85 and I dont have to worry about any issues, i can just return/reject it if it doesn’t work.

yea I have gloves I use now all the time for that exact reason. it also helps save your hands if you go down. I really am lucky, I was jsut about to go down a zigzaging path, down hill lined with trees. It would have been much much worse.

Sounds like a good way to go. They can get pretty much the same wheels as performance. I would have used this as an excuse to get a new bike.

since winter i’ve put a new gear set up front, new front derailleur, two chains, and now the wheel. if i knew this was coming I probably would have gone with a new bike.

I have only bought one bike this year, a mountain bike for my son. I have to start saving for ski season now. You think cycling is expensive. Skiing will bankrupt you.
